The building was designed as a weekend retreat surrouded by the Cederburg mountains. The building is completely off-grid and runs exclusively off rain water and solar energy systems. High efficiency R-value insulation and double glazing minimises heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, reducing the energy requirements. A star gazing deck and lap pool adds to the ambience of the cottage. Local Cederburg stone was used in a “dry pack” walling method with XPS polystyrene cavity insulation behind.
